The Traffic Generation Kick-off: Blog Commenting Power!
So here it is… The Marketing Pay Dirt Blog!
This has been a long time coming, but I finally got around to creating this brand spanking new Internet marketing blog.
So if you are reading this message, you’re probably wondering “what type of content will I be creating?” Well, that is entirely up to my viewers.
If you have a question, send it my way via contact form or through a comment (which is the best way!) and I’ll write a post on it.
So to start off, I’ve decided to write a 5 post kick-off event about the best traffic generation tactics out there! Don’t worry, all the methods I will be covering this week will be completely free! None of that PPC crap just yet.
So, without further ado, lets rock ‘n roll.
Today, I’m going to show you how to tap into one of the best traffic generation sources out there.
What is it you ask?
Well it’s something called blog commenting… ever hear of it?
Well I’m sure you have, but I honestly want to know how many of you actually do it?
Blog commenting is a great way to get some serious traffic to any web-page you are promoting, but there is a little secret behind it.
Most people don’t have good results commenting and think that the comments are only useful to build backlinks on “DoFollow” blogs. (By the way, MarketingPayDirt.com has all DoFollow comments! So be sure to comment away!)
What type of blogs should you leave a comment on?
Step 1 – Set Yourself Up To Get The Traffic
- You want to comment on high trafficked blogs with a lot of RSS subscribers, email opt-ins, or social profile followers. Additionally if you see there are a lot of comments on the blog, its a sure sign it has a good following! Go out and find 10-15 of these blogs within your niche that have at least 2-5 posts per week added to the blog.
- Next, you must be one of the first to comment on a new post. The top 5 comments will get the most exposure. How often have you went through a whole list of comments? Probably never.
- The best way to be one of the first people is to subscribe to their RSS feed with your favorite RSS reader that you check throughout the day. I’m not telling you to sit there and check non-stop, but if you check a few times a day, you’ll more than likely be able to get that coveted top 5 spot.
Step 2 – How To Stand Out From The Ground
- When you comment, please read the article you are commenting on! I cannot tell you how many times I have seen people leave comments like “Great Info” or “Awesome post”. I can tell you right now if you do that, you will fail.
- Write something relevant to the post that contributes to the conversation started by the poster. Remember, blogs are an interactive playground where people respond to each other. In other words, only write a comment if you have something to say on the subject matter.
- To stand out further, be sure to add value to the post. I’m not talking about more information, but stating your opinion and experiences will grab people’s attention. If you have a post on your blog related to the subject of the post, you can even link to that.
- When you are commenting on the blogs you have chosen, have consistency throughout all your posts. Be sure to have an avatar set up! Give people a face to put with the words you are writing. Additionally, be sure to use the same name and email for every comment. Many blogs have a plugin called “Top Commentators” which will place the people with the most comments onto the blog’s sidebar (look to your right as I have the plugin installed.)
One final tip – DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT spam blogs! Not only will you get your comments deleted, but your IP could be banned!
So that’s all for now! Stay tuned, because every day this week a new post will be added with a different traffic generation strategy!
Let me know what you think! Leave me some comment love! Also, I would be SUPER appreciative if you could Tweet this post out or promote in any other way!

I think that it’s great advice on blog commenting because if you rationally make a qualified and educated comment based upon the post than you hold legitmacy and are deserving of a comment. With my do follow blog comments it’s so hard to get actual meaningful comments especially when they are month old blog posts (perhaps that should also be mentioned in the post in greater detail beyond the second bullet point) if you are a late commenter and its not on auto approve which most lists seem to be than its really not worth wasting your commenting time and you might as well donate the $10.00 to India or singapore since they will do it with no results.
Thanks for your input. You brought up some great points. I agree that I should have mentioned that you should only comment on new blog posts. Many blog owners will disable comments on posts past 14 days old for that reason.
Congratulation on your new blog. I am looking forward to all of your traffic getting posts. I am a newbie and so I try to soak up as much info. as possible. I have found value in your first post and I did not about comment do’s and don’ts.
Can hardly wait for my free gift. Again congrats.
Well I’m glad you came and left a comment Nancy! I’m also extremely glad you took something away from this post! If you ever have any questions concerning any of my posts, feel free to ask them right here. I’ll be quite active in the comments section.
Hi Adam,
Very nice blog and a valuable contribution.
I am sure your content will attract many
followers.
Good luck and thanks for sharing.
J
Thanks J… I’m glad you like it. If let me know if you have any input on how I can improve it.
Adam,
Wishing you much success with this blog. I will be checking it often.
That’s great to hear. I will be posting Wednesday-Friday this week for the first 3 traffic techniques and Monday & Tuesday next week for the final 2. Then you can expect a minimum of 2 posts a week.
Useful post on “Blog Commenting” but could have more indepth and explained how to find blogs in your niche, how to find DoFollow blogs. Even though this is an old method for finding blogs with the CommentLuv it still works, simply type into Google “title=”CommentLuv Enabled”your keyword remembering to replace “your keyword” with the niche you are looking for ie dog training. I look forward to your next post.
You are absolutely correct Mark… I should have included something about that. A topic like that could be a whole blog post in itself, so thanks to Mr. Mark you can expect a post on that in the future.
Thanks for the comment!
Good start to the new blog, it is amazing how many IMers don’t use these simple but very effective tactics for traffic generation. I don’t know whether it is out of laziness or just trying that shiny next new tactic that you pay 27.00 for. Anyway that is fine with me as far as my competition goes. Good luck and I will be checking in on the blog regularly.
Thanks for the comment Zac. I agree 100%. The problem with 99% of IM’ers is that they are looking for the magic button. Trust me, I’ve been marketing online for almost 2 years now and that button does not exist. Stick to the small things that work, then you can experiment with some of the new, unproven traffic methods.
Nice site Adam! Good traffic generation advice is hard to come by!
I forgot to mention, I would never spam blogs. Alays try to add useful content. If you can’t say something nice then best say nothing at all.
My great aunt taught me that over 50 years ago and it’s still true today.

Hi Adam,
Ihave had the pleasure to purchase stuff from you already and got very well served.
The tips and information in this blog seem to be once more of great value.
I look forward to read more from you.
Best of luck.
Gerard
Gerard,
Thanks for the kind words. I really do appreciate it. I have some good things planned for this blog, so I really do hope to deliver some awesome content.
Look forward to more of your comments!
Clean view blog. I like that type of websites – easy to read and with minimum destructions.
I have had the good experience to purchase stuff from you and got it very well written.
Thanks,
Alexander
Thanks for the comment Alexander. I’m also extremely glad you have been happy with my products thus far.
Hi – the new blog looks great and contains good, useful information. I look forward to being a regular reader.
Look forward to more of your comments!
Drat! I didn’t make it into the first 5! But I do want to make a comment.
I won’t know if my face is going to show up on this comment until I hit “submit comment”…… Congratulations Adam on your new blog. If this is any indication of the quality of what you will be producing, you are well on your way. I DO know what blog commenting is and wish that all the other millions of people out there did too. At this point, I would settle for the “great post” comment LOL. In the HUGE Internet arena of zillions of articles and posts, it is nice to read one that is fresh and new and not just a regurgitation of the same stuff everyone writes about.
Julie, thanks for the comment! And your face is showing up just fine… haha. I just checked out your blog, and I’d be happy to leave you a comment. It looks great.
I’m glad you found my post “fresh”… always good to hear that!
In an ideal world everyone who visited our blogs would leave a comment, but I’ll settle for what I have only after 2 posts!
Besides being well written and useful, Adam, you rock as a blogger for coming back and responding to everyone! I don’t do a lot of blog commenting but have found it to be very successful when I do. Many times though, you are left wondering if anyone ever read the comments you wrote. Congrats on doing it right! Will subscribe
Thanks for the awesome comment Rebecca! If you post on high trafficked blogs, you’ll get plenty of visitors to your site if you post early.
I don’t have a any statistics on the % of people who read comments. I tried searching for one, but cant find any stats from a reliable source.
Hope to see more comments from you Rebecca.
Adam,
Why your blog doesn’t have a sidebar post/article navigation?
It could be much easier to jump from one post to other than to go to Home page each time you want to read next post. Also your home page will eventually be to long…
Your post is being considered as we speak. What you recommend having? A recent articles section or a most popular section?
Your feedback is important!
EDIT – I’ve just added the “Recent Posts” plugin for the time being.
Thank you for explaining how to leave comments intelligently, this is really helpful information that I can share with my clients. I’ll check out the “recent posts” plug-in too. Wishing you success on your blog, I look forward to reading /and learning/ more.
Thanks Kelly for the comment.
Hope to see you back soon!
Any navigation is helpful. Recent Posts is OK but it probably restricted by number of post that can be displayed. Maybe Archive is good to have as well.
I can’t agree with you more about reading an article before commenting. When I read comments I by pass short comments with no substance. that means I don’t seeany web site info either. When I read an interesting comment I usually try to visit the commentors web site.
Beware leaving a link in the comment itself… I think that is what got my blog suspended by blogger. It was probably interpretted as “spam commenting”, eventhough my link was simply to a cartoon I drew that was related to the blog subject!
Good advice Adam. Simple and effective.
Blog commenting is one of the effective ways to improve the website’s rankings and traffic. Nice tips. I will always remember these tips you have shared.
