The Traffic Generation Kick-off: Document Sharing Case Study
I was a bit unsure which traffic generation technique I wanted to cover today, but I decided I would post about a new version of article marketing that has provided some surprising results.
This method might seem odd, you might even be in disbelief, but I highly recommend you go out and try it before you decide for yourself.
To start things, I have been doing article marketing for nearly 2 years. I can honestly say that the competition is outrageous at this point. I’m sure many of you can agree with that statement as most of your articles only receive 10-50 views in their lifetime and get anywhere from 5-10 clicks.
Now, I don’t know you about you, but my time is worth a hell of a lot more than writing a single article to only get 5-10 visitors to my website. Not to mention, it is nearly impossible to get your articles ranked for good keywords with the major article directories (ezinearticles.com, goarticles.com, etc.) due to your competition already beating you to the punch.
Not only that, but the article directories themselves are getting more strict by the month. They are accepting less and placing more and more ads onto their sites, therefore lessening your clickthrough rate.
I’ve created a case study showing how I have had decent results using a different type of content site. Now you have to understand that the numbers you are about to see are not all that impressive, but the potential is huge. Not to mention that you’re going to be astonished with my final point (don’t go skipping to the end! Read the whole article!)
If you haven’t heard, Google has been giving lots of love to document sharing sites such as Docstoc.com and Scribd.com.
What sets these sites apart from other article directories is that you can upload a PDF or DOC file straight onto the sites. Additionally you have complete control of the content you upload.
And by complete control, I mean there is no approval time (you post it, it goes live immediately) and you can post links wherever you want in the document (no bio box!) I only recommend three call to action links though per document. One at the top under your title, one in the middle, and one at the end of your document will suffice.
OK… So are these document sharing sites worth posting to?
In my honest opinion, yes!
DocStoc.com Case Study
DISCLAIMER: I have done this study strictly for this purpose. The niche I cover is not something I’m interested in or would normally promote. I chose this niche because it has the number one selling product on clickbank at the moment. All my documents were direct linked to the sales-page which is not a recommended business model (your conversions will suck!)
As I stated above, the “Farmville” niche is one of those fad niches that is becoming huge. Many people have articles ranking in the search engines for all the high trafficked keywords, so the competition is relatively high.
In this study, I decided I would post 10 documents focusing on 10 keywords to DocStoc.com.
I used the posting methods I mentioned above (three links contained in my articles).
Without further ado, here are my results ranking in Google per keyword:

As you can see, all 10 of my articles are ranking in google for the particular keywords. Two have already made the first page! Now imagine if I would have promoted these articles further by building backlinks! With some good promotion I could almost guarantee that I could get most of those second page rankings onto the first.
Now For The Astonishing Part!
NONE, I repeat, NONE of these articles were unique articles! I purchased PLR articles straight from this site:
http://www.scubbly.com/item/7190/
PLR stands for Private Label Rights. PLR articles are articles in which you can claim full authorship.
Additionally, I made zero changes to the body of the articles! I obviously added my links and changed up the titles to encompass my keywords, but besides that, nothing was changed.
You can take what you want from this case study, but all I have to say is that if you are not submitting some of your content to these document sharing sites, then you are missing out on some decent traffic.
The competition is very minimal at this point on DocStoc.com, so I recommend that site. Scribd.com is much more strict and doesn’t like promotion content as much.
I’m ranking in Google with articles I didn’t even write! They are PLR articles that other people already have.
Take some action and get posting! Leave me some feedback/comments below and let me know what you think! I would love to know some of your results!
Stay tuned for yet another “Traffic Generation Kick-Off” post tomorrow!

I’ve been using this method for the past 6 months and it works great. I don’t even put an entire article in my pdf documents. I put headline, about 6 bullet points as a teaser and then lead into my call of action if the reader would like to see more, they must visit my site. Its been working good for me so far. If you have PLR, you may just want to use one paragraph for each doc, this way you can target more keywords too.
Those are some great points Brian. I didn’t even think about that not including a full article. I think this just proves even more that it’s relatively easy to get your documents into Google’s SE.
looks like you are off to a great start with the new blog. Good Luck
Thanks Mike. Hope to see you around often leaving some feedback.
I have been using sribd.com and docstoc.com only a little bit and got some backlinks and traffic from Google very quick, but didn’t do it consistently. Now I will.

Wow Alexander…
That’s an awesome list. Way to contribute to the article!
Sorry disregard that last comment, I have tried these methods recently and am a little mad you are uncovering my idea to the masses but have also found some other useful tricks with these document sites. Also make a note to your readers that you can have overly promotional articles on docstoc that will get flagged and removed if they deem it to be too linky or advertising/promotional. Also you need to save the articles to a file and upload them you cant just type them in like an article directory allows. Besides those missing points excellent post.
Sounds like a good way to do CPA on a budget
Thanks for the heads-up
Good article.
I have been getting a fair amount of traffic at Ezine but not for the effort put in.
I will be trying these sites in the next few days.
Thanks a lot!
Good to hear. Be sure to come back here and post some of your results for us!
Killer ideas. I’ve already stumbled it and I’m off to post right now. I’ll check back in to share results.
Thanks a million mate,
John
Hmmm, why should I stumble your article Adam, I’d rather not share these tactiks with anyone else
Cheers for your tips
I guess you could see it that way! The way I see it, the majority of the people who read useful content rarely over go out and do it. SO stumbling would not have a negative effect on your results!
Completely agree with you Adam, people are or too busy or too lazy or forget to do.
.
.
Sometime I think that if I use PLR articles without any changes or just a title change I won’t get into duplicate content or too much completion issues
Sometimes I am overloaded or forget to do what I had suppose to do as well
So, now I am looking for good solution of this problem and I came to conclusion that mind mapping software is what I need. I did some research yesterday and found very-very promising free and paid programs. Now I am checking them out.
Well, it’s not something I have tried yet but I am going to as
I have so many plr articles on my HD just gathering Diggy Dust !
Thanks Adam
Sandra
Yeah, you should definitely give it a shot. Be sure to come back here and let us know your results!
Additionally, you’re going to have to do some promotion for best results. Build some backlinks to them.
Thanks Adam and Alexander!
I will give them a go!
Wayne.
Hi Adam,
I’ve been following your blog all week and I’d like to say thanks. I’ve just set up my first blog and your traffic generating tips will no doubt prove invaluable. I look forward to your next instalment.
Regard
Rick
I have only messed with document sharing a couple of articles. I guess building a process for this would be pretty easy though.
as for the rankings, I always find that unless you are in the top 2 or 3 in google that the traffic kinda stinks, can you tell us how many visitors you have had with these 10 articles so far? The reason that I ask is because I find that although the long tail is not very popular anymore most of my traffic comes from the long tail and not the original terms I am shooting for
I love Scribd and Docstoc!! People underestimate the power of these document sites. Even Slideshare kicks butt too! I have even gotten on the first page of Google within hours using some of these sites…and that was without using a single backlink!
A lot of time the tag pages of these sites DO turn up on the first page of Google so make sure you do tag your content with relevant tags.
The key of course is choosing good keywords to begin with.
Good article Adam!
So, do you guys submit 1 article a day for these sites, or do you do multiple a day (i.e. 1 scribd and 1 to docstoc/per day, or more per day). Thanks for the great tips. Ezine and others have been useful, but is very crowded.
hey guys , im a total noob, learning as i go. Im still hoping to make my FIRST internet dollar! i just paid 14 dollars for the information i just got from this post. lol. I started a blog about online poker strategy. im an affiliate of the poker rooms, as well as a strategy guide and a couple software items.
Is it ok for me to post an article that i have written and posted to my blog on these document sharing sites?
Also, do i take my paticular article and post it to more than one of the sites with each article?
Also on the info i bought it says to ping the article and the bookmark it. Lets say i submit my article to 3 of these doc sharing sites.(if that is ok) Do i ping and bookmark the article for each site i submit it to?
one more thing , sorry
…. how did you know how you ranked for the keywords in your example. Im still trying to get a grasp of the whole keywords thing. thanks for anybody who takes the time to respond
The seller you mention at http://www.Scubbly.com has many other PLR article packages for sale, and some of them are offered as “limited, like they’ll only sell X copies, then they stop selling them. does this mean those articles will have a better likelihood of ranking OK in the search engines?
Also, has anyone had any experience buying or selling at Scubbly? I’ve never heard of them before but it looks like they help you sell anything that can be downloaded. You can’t see the products before buying them, so how can you know you’re getting good quality articles?
