It is not so easy to do as it seems from the first sight.

Because a USP is the specific advantage of a product that no other competitor can offer, you have to know all your competitors and their product as ABC and it is HARD to do especially time wise.

That’s true, but you should already know that information before entering a niche anyways. At the very minimum you should already be keeping an eye on the main players within your niche.

I would add that it is important to create a USP from the perspective of your target audience. Too many people assume that what excites them about a product or service will also excite the reader.

Take the example of the see through containers we use for take away food. The seller may be excited about the see through capability that enables the user to know what’s in the box. The user may be more thrilled that it has a sealable lid that prevents food from spilling over the front seat of the car on the way home.

As for the competition, many times there will be nothing inherently unique about our product or service… so we have to create something unique about what we do or how we do it that will set us apart from the competition.

Coming up with a USP for your business can at times be rather difficult. However, when creating a new product i strive to not rely on just a single USP. If i can i like to push 2-3 unique selling points.

The style that i have with my internet marketing suits this strategy quite well and it has worked wonders for me. I love nothing more than leaving my competition with a lot of ground to make up.
